Physician Assistant
Description
Physician assistants conduct physical examinations, treat illnesses, assist in surgery, and perform other activities under the supervision of physicians. The NSU physician assistant master of medical science degree (M.M.S.) is offered through the Health Professions Division’s College of Allied Health and Nursing.
Requirements
The physician assistant Dual Admission Program is restricted to entering freshmen. Candidates are required to pursue a bachelor's degree in athletic training or biology. They must achieve, at minimum, one of three combinations of high school GPA and SAT/ACT scores: 3.3 GPA with 1150 SAT or 25 ACT, 3.5 GPA with 1100 SAT or 24 ACT, or 3.8 GPA with 1080 SAT or 23 ACT. In addition, candidates must have two years of mathematics (through algebra 2), three years of science (including biology and chemistry), and four years of English.
In addition to an undergraduate studies application, a dual admission application must be submitted along with three references: one from a high school science teacher, one from a guidance counselor, and one from someone outside academia, preferably a physician assistant or health professonal. An on-campus preadmission interview is required.
The physician assistant Dual Admission Program normally requires three years of undergraduate education and 27 months of graduate study. After successfully completing one year in the graduate program, the student is eligible to receive a bachelor’s degree from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences.
