Dual Admission Program Background Information
About the Dual Admission Program
The Dual Admission Program allows a limited number of highly qualified students to apply to the NSU graduate or professional school of their choice at the same time they apply to the undergraduate studies program. The program reserves a seat in graduate school for them.
How dual admissions works
Stage 1: Acceptance into an undergraduate program: High school students (in some dual admission programs, transfer students are also accepted) apply to one of NSU’s undergraduate colleges—the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship, or the Fischler School of Education and Human Services.
Stage 2: Determining dual admission eligibility: Once accepted into an undergraduate program, eligibility for dual admission programs is determined. Each dual admission program has unique requirements based on high school curriculum, grades, test scores, references, and other elements.
Stage 3: Maintaining standards during the undergraduate years: During their undergraduate career, dual admission students must complete undergraduate program requirements, maintain minimum grade standards, and fulfill other graduate school admissions requirements, such as standardized tests (e.g. MCAT, LSAT, GRE), and in some cases, interviews with the graduate school.
Dual admission is different from dual enrollment
Dual enrollment means that students take classes in more than one academic institution or school at a time, such as high school and college. Dual admission at NSU is the acceptance of a student into undergraduate and graduate programs at the same time. However, dual admission students attend only one program at a time.
The advantages of dual admission
- dual admission reserves a seat for students in the graduate or professional school of their choice
- for dual admission students, the intense pressure for admission into graduate/professional schools is minimized, leaving them opportunities to pursue a diversity of interests outside of their intended career goals
- the dual admission program links undergraduates to graduate programs in activities outside the classroom, including shadowing programs and networking events
- undergraduate scholarships are available for dual admission students
